I often use Auto-Aim, that's why I have a gunner. If I see a target and know that center mass is a pen spot for me I'll often use it because it allows me to keep a wider field of view and I can still monitor what's going on around me rather than being scope locked on the target. If I find that my gunner cannot hit the target and needs help I usually take over.

In my case YES.

I have such rubbish coordination that I rely heavily on Auto Aim.  It's not that I don't "know" how to aim, or that I don't try to aim (especially at partially covered targets), it's just that my thumbs have very little connection to my eyes! If I were forced to manually aim 100% of the time I'd miss 99% of the time.

I can't tell the difference with Aim Assist on. Can you tell me what it does (or tries to do) please?

I use it to lock on target only, then I aim for weak spots.

I use auto lock only if i'm in a dog fight in close range in a fast tank, but only shoot if my tank and red going in line for that shot to work. I started in heavies, so now I'm gradually moving into faster medium/light tanks, so yes, it is a skill that needs to be learned.

Also, with games being blowouts and only 5 min, there's almost no time to practice/try different strategies in game now. It's either I'm overrun by a pack of reds, or bouncing all the shots from my own team mates pack that eliminating reds like there's no tomorrow!!!:playing::D

No.

I must have had 40 shots fired into the dirt behind me scouting along a ridge line fully exposed, time and again, a good player could easily have got me.

Not a single shot passed in front of me, no-one was even trying to lead.

LT432 flank on is not a small target.

Good for me that match, but those idiots will be on my side one day.

Lock on aiming is a tool that you need to learn how to use if you want to be really good.  In many situations it's better than manually aiming.  If anything, most players don't use it often enough.  I probably take more shots with lock on than without but I almost never see red tanks snapshotting me in return or doing a proper circle of death.

I'm not stealing kills, I'm handing out Confederate medals.

I wish there was a hardcore mode that turned it off completely.  Would be nice to play with like minded people that want to aim for themselves.

Would end up being a bit of a nerf to light tank drivers... no more auto aim spamming while circle of deathing and while circle dogfighting other lights.

There is already. It's called World Of Tanks PC.

Just get the ELC Even 90. There is no better tank for destroying auto-lock players with no effort.

It depends what you call an average player. I learned that auto-aim exists when I was at about 7K battles I think.

I'll use it to lock on to a tank and then free aim weak spots. I also shut aim assist off because it's awful for this game.

However, I did 3 mark my T-54 by auto aiming everything down slinging full HEAT, because balanced.

Tried it once and didn’t like it.  In the rest of my games I never used it.  Can’t even remember how to activate it.  If it makes me an average player, so be it.
I'm just saying.....

R1, it’s the lock on button and then it follows the tank you’re locked on if they’re still lit up, at least that’s what I think, I know there is another feature that will screw with your shots even when you’re zoomed in aiming if a light tank drives in front of your target, I had to disable that because it was way too annoying

I mostly played lights the last few days especially the british lights.

since they are bad and you have to rely even more on your team i was shocked how bad most players are. They just dont shot anything what is more than 100 meter away, maybe make a video that you can aim manually . Sometimes i would like to make a restriction for playing tier 9 and 10. at least 2 k battles and wn8 above 1xxx points

Auto aim is a game option. Auto lock is the controller button function. Which one are you crying about?

You talking about auto-aim (in settings) or lock-on? I've got auto-aim switched off, but I use lock-on :great:
