Lots of players autolock because they are lazy or just don't understand the mechanics of armour and shells.

Yeah, I understand that, but how often do people use autolock when shooting from a distance?  Usually, in my experience, that's not a high percentage shot.  You need to aim ahead/behind or at weak spots.

I hear you, and it's rather difficult atm to estimate how this is gonna play out.

I'm quite sure that the outline (i.e. getting spotted) will draw enemy attention to your tank compared to if you stay undetected, even though that your tank is still visible, but exactly how much it will affect the gameplay is hard to say before we get to try it.

Agree, thanks for the feedback.  On a positive note, I do think it's good for WG to try to evolve the game play and tests like this can be a part of that process.  So, I commend them for that, but obviously you want changes that make the game better not worse.  We will have to see how this plays out.

This is the right spirit! I'm glad you posted this!

I have faith this is a great needed change, but hey, I have to test it too!

Rip to El Halluf, Malinovka, or any other map where you’re now able to see the enemy team from spawn. These maps are going to play like garbage now.

WOT will have to change up spawn points on maps like Lakeville other wise the only fighting will be death valley and goat path. No heavies will want to cross past lake toward town.

Spawn points are going to be an issue, that's for sure, but this is just a 2 day test.

The "Normal system" is the red outline, auto-lock, etc, as I understand it.

As a disabled player who greatly depends on Auto lock/aim I am very concerned about this. In an age when games are trying to be more inclusive this based purely on the description seems to go the other way entirely. Again based purely on the description given this seems like it will promote camping even more now. Also this test tells me they are having issues with wheeled vehicle integration into the console game & balancing them...

I'm not saying it will be a bad thing but some maps will "shrink" if spawn points are not thought out better. I will wait to judge this mechanic till after the test.

Auto lock still works, only promotes camping if you have cover, otherwise you're toast.

But I have to test it!

I completely understand your concerns.

Remember though, that the vision system we are familiar with still is in play during the test. So you can still use auto-lock on all spotted tanks. I don't necessarily think this will make a huge impact for you, there will still be detected tanks to shoot at.

But only way you'll know for sure is to try it out and then give your feedback.

Yes, but only for the ones outside "normal" vision mechanics:

Automatically (EXISTING SYSTEM)

  • This is where the game detects the game automatically using your tanks View Range to defeat the enemy's Concealment.
  • When enemies are detected this way, you will have full visions/aiming assistance such as; tank outlines, ability to lock on or use radial commanders, HUD elements, etc.

I dunno, El Halluf will surely benefit as it'll discourage heavies from sitting on the ridges?

Now *everyone* will head to the choke point.

Well, except for the players who have no idea about the changes and will now be wondering how they are being killed by visible tanks as they tunnel vision on hitting a distant tank with their 0.42 accuracy.

The alterations aren’t supposed to affect both artillery views, but third person cameras are affected. We’ll find a way to abuse that, I assure you.

Oh? well that's good to know I guess. I was worried arty would be able to see everyone in Skyview at any range regardless of whether you're spotted or not.

RIP Casual Players in slow tanks who don't read the news and probably didn't even understand the original mechanics.

That's why I'm excited to test this! Here:

Artillery:

  • When in “Arcade Mode” (camera in 3rd person, behind the tank) the detection system is the same for artillery as it is for all other classes.
  • When in “Strategic Mode” or any top-down camera mode, the artillery’s vision mode uses the existing vision system to prevent cheating or seeing all enemies all the time from a god’s eye view.
    • I.E. It can only see enemies that have been "detected" by its allies.
