I did not manage to make the pre-order roster, and I will not pay more than retail price.

According to one of the Best-Buy geek I spoke to, they should get the pre-order PS5's, and a small stock to be sold on a first arrived first served basis.

I don't see myself spending the night outside of a store to be the first one in the queue... lol!

So far, I have been offered a single tip: pick a store which is in a less popular/populated area to maximize your chance to get one. At the same time, it feels to me those "less popular" stores would get less consoles too.

I also have been told that I could possibly ask a store where I am a good customer to reserve one from the public sales stock. Is this even possible?

I have no idea, but good luck.  As long as you have the money, there are a lot of things worse to spend it on.

Armed robbery?

I'm not stealing kills, I'm handing out Confederate medals.

Do you really need to have one on release day?

Is it really that important?

It's not like there's that many new games on release day. I would wait 6-12 months for more games and probably a cheaper price.

When the Ps4 launched my wife got me one for Christmas she just happened to be in Target when they just got the shipment in.  Was just lucky right place right time.

Go to a game store or pawn shop and see if anyone has sold theirs?

The idea of asking a local store where you shop to reserve is also worth a try if you really want one. Some places will hold things for an hour or a day. But the stores that would sell a ps5 probably won't.

Find a rural store.

When the Wii was super popular and there were none in stores for Christmas, I was travelling for work and popped into a Walmart in a very rural area.  They had 10 on the shelf--I bought 2.

Maybe they are better now but I think they distribute a certain amount to each store, regardless of the size of the community.

This. Why hurry? Besides, first wave of new consoles might have some problems... I still remember "Red Ring Of Death" all too well...

My kids are a bit older now and aren't gaming like they used to. This is the first time I haven't been gunning for new consoles to re-sell and what not in quite a few years, things may be different this time around but In the past I've had some luck with various in stock 'trackers'. Basically you keep an eye on the trackers and see who is coming in and out of stock, get one added to your cart and check out as fast as possible.  The brick and mortar can work too but you have to get up early and check stores when they open, figure out when they usually get their trucks and stop there before work or whatever.  It turns out to be 'work' unfortunately, like everything else in life that pays off.  :)

Do you really need one right away?

It's best to wait till the initial release is over for normal availability and prices. There may even be better budles for the x-mas sales, wether officially from Sony or a store one.

By then they will have sorted out software bugs and issues and possibly found out hardware issues too. Remember, early adopters are also the first testers who actually paid for the privilege.

Remember, it's just a game!

I got the ps3 day 1 and it suffered from both the first leap year day nonsense and later the blue light of doom.

I got my 360 two years down after launch and had no issues with it.

Just shows its better to wait. You pay less money, get more games to play and don't have to deal with the 1st gen teething issues.

There will be plenty to play on release day. not to mention nearly all ps4 titles will be playable on ps5 it's not necessarily necessary. But like many people we just want to get our hands on it. The anticipation is killing me too. I got my ps4 day one. And never once had an issue with my console. even if on the off chance my ps5 is defective. It comes with a 1 year warranty from the factory so I can easily get it fixed. and at that point I wouldn't be waiting that long than if I just waited like you mentioned. also. What if the one you get 6 months later is defective. I'd honestly rather take my chances now when we have new and interesting titles coming out. Plus warthunder just upgraded to a new engine with a huge graphics overhual. And yeah... Lol spider man... Cyber punk 2077. I can't wait 6 months lol

True statement! I don't need one on release day, and if I don't get one, I am not going to feel bad either.

See, my plan was to take one of my current two consoles to replace my Xbox 360 at a remote location where I usually spend Christmas and New Year. However, this year, because of C-19, I will not travel there.

Thus, there is even less of a reason to get a third console.

I just want to try, more by curiosity than anything else. See what it is like to be caught in the frenzy.

I live in a very small gated community. I know all the neighbors. When their kids need to play console games (mainly Fortnite), they come to my place. I don't think getting a PS5 is high on their list...

The idea to ask someone to hold one for you is probably good, if I knew someone personally in the one Best Buy I usually shop at. However, the turn around of personnel made that impossible. I went several times for other reasons, usually at the same times, and the people I spoke to were always different youngsters.

I would need to speak to one of the managers to get it to work, and ethically, it would not be correct for them to do that. So I doubt very much this will work. I will give it a try, just to see. But I am not holding my breath.

As for the pawn shop, I am under no illusion these guys will try to sell at the current eBay prices, which is twice the price, at the very minimum. I am expecting even more, given that a lot of the pre-orders were possibly made by people who only want to resale for profit.

Errrr everything, hold out on the giants, dont play their stupid "its sooo much better" ( its slightly better ) games

im pretty much never buying anything full price unless i have to, but tech prices fall so quick why bother, in march price will be down 10%, this time next year 20%,

Go get PS5, p1ss higher than the next man, then cry cause somebody else playing stalker 2 and you cant cause you got PS,

The first time you play cyber punk will be the first time you play cyber punk, if playing it before others gives you more pleasure then that says something about your phycology doesnt it.

Want now, must have culture at its worst, cause they released it substandard to then release another 1 in june/july

and i echo bug warnings of others
