Dear FV4202,

I have made a grievous error and have wronged you.

As any good tanker would do, I research all tanks and lines and I found that your very bad reputation was proper cause to avoid you completely.  Having never given you the benefit of the doubt, I once described you as "too much suck".  Good grief, I hadn't driven you yet.  How could I say something like that only basing my opinion on others' experiences?

Now, because I found out that you will likely be replaced and that I would get your replacement for free (and possibly keep you as a premium for free too), and because I am a slippery fella who thought he'd "have his cake and eat it too"... well, I picked you up last night.  I was thinking I'd just hate driving the dreaded FV 4202, but that "what the hell" as long as I just paid 6.1 Million silver for ya, why not take it out for a spin around the block... ... ...

I have only played 6 games.  I won 5 of them, the other was a draw: 83% win ratio.  Keep in mind, I'm an average player (at best).  My overall win ratio is under 49%... so while 83% will surely go down, I wonder how that number will settle in.  In the last of the 6 games, I took on a 90% health E-100 paired with a 100% T-62A that thought he could physically bully me.  I was at about 80% health myself.  Those two are still licking their wounds and likely wondering what just happened.  I also took out a T32 myself.  Rumble... brawl... thump.  All in all there was over 4,500 in damage and three or four kills.  Everyone I encountered got ripped limb from limb.

FV 4202... you are nothing short of fabulous.  I know you can't "hull down" for a crap.  It's just not your strength.  I know your armor is a joke (Honey, you're pretty; but you are not tough).  And no, you're not suited for "trading shots" corner fighting.  But that torque... that motor's torque!  Hill climbing!  Bad terrain?  The nimble FV 4202 laughs!  And the gun... dear got that gun:  the 105mm ROF is about 40% better than the same gun on the 7/1... uh... WHOA!  Good god it gets me out of trouble.

FV 4202, please don't hold it all against me.  I'll reform.

Most sincerely, a tanker that needs to learn to try tanks before judging them.

I loved my 4202, only reason i sold it was to purchase my E5. It will be back in my garage. I always just smiled as I read how people called it a joke. And yes it can make the opfor pay for their mistakes.

But always, always there is the discipline of steel.

I think the biggest reason people (including me) initially look so down on the 4202 is because for the most part playing the 7/1 teaches you that you can own a hill, then you hop into a 4202 and you can't own a hill anymore, rather you take on much more of a support role. It really is a great tank that is just cast in the shadow of its tier 9.

Post is a joke, you can't evaluate a tank based on 6 games.

Why would you have an FV4202 when you can have a Patton, E50 or T62?

Oh no?  Well I have 11 games in it now and I can still say it's a great tank.  So there.

You seem like a cool and upbeat kind of forumer... we should hang out more.

There's an interesting question coming from someone with 225 games in a FV4202, yet no games in a Patton, no games in an E50, and no games in a T62.  I guess  you would know why you'd want it over a Patton, E50 or a T62... but then why ask this question?

Are you trolling?

I just haven't ground to the T62 mainly 'cos I'm grinding other stuff.

It's common to get a buzz with a new tank and think it's great BTW.

OK... I'll take my d*ck hat off.  Your response sounds like it's from a grounded person.  Sorry I jabbed at cha.

To your post and point... yup, I totally agree about that new tank buzz.  In my case it is my first tier X, so I am completely wanting it to not suck.  Projection?

I took it out in a platoon tonight and had a great time.  Another win.  It's only my second platoon experience and it was great.  Is anyone surprised it was with two forumers?  Good stuff.

Tank on!

Nighttrain is actually right. The FV4202 is considered the worst tier 10 medium on the PC. There's a reason for that. Whatever it can do the E50M can do better, hell the Centurion 7/1 is better.

Ok I might have sounded a bit opinionated but you do really need high double digits at least to fully appraise a tank IMHO.

It's not a crap tank by any means, I just think it's let down in a couple of areas, especially the turret (lack of mantlet).

I do play it quite a lot though, but mainly 'cos it's my only Tier X and I'm determined to get my money's worth lol, plus I keep thinking/hoping I can get better with it.

The FV4202 does have more gun depression. I do like gun depression.

What pisses me off is the E50M was already a good tank and they buffed the armour a little in the last patch.

Its true it has gun depression but it can't go hull down like the 7/1 due to a weaker turret and mantlet (even though on paper it says different).

That is completely true.  Did my post sound like a full review?  I didn't mean for it to be, and there's no doubt that (at least for me) I need a lot of games to get the hang of most tanks.  I've been putting a lot of time in my (finally) fully upgraded T32 and IS lately and I'm not sure I'd be able to give a proper tank summary / report on them yet.  Must tank more.

The 4202 is the only tier 10 I own, so I can't really judge how well the other tier 10 mediums play. I only have 79 battles in the 4202, but in that time I have noticed that in the times I've been in a 1 on 1 with another tier 10 medium, I usually come out on top. The patton usually loses to the 4202 every time, and the E50M lacks the dpm to out gun the 4202, the T-62A is the only true contender I've faced in the 4202, even then, they don't demolish me, it's a close fight. The 4202 is underrated, the patton is typically known for being the "all around tank" but to me the 4202 takes that spot. It all really comes down to opinion really. I've just noticed that I have more trouble against other tier 10's like heavies or tds rather than mediums.

I bought this beauty yesterday. This tank feels like the Comet. 10kp/h slower but very good penetration and better armor.

This thing to drive is a joy. Maybe it is not the best tier 10 medium. T62a is probably better but 15.62hp/t and only -5 gun depression? That doesnt sound like fun.

This thing is definitely much more fun than this huge not really mobile and low dpm driving weak spot Centurion 7/1. Cent 7/1 is not bad but compared to Comet or FV4202 it is imo garbage. It's just my opinion and what I like at a medium.

I have only 8 games with it but it is definitely my favorite tank on par with the Comet, And it will get better, on PC they buffed the ROF to 7 rounds per minute  :veryhappy:

I had some donkey games with it and I still managed to average 3500 damage per game with a very aggressive play style.

Edit:

imo the best equipment is: rammer, stab and optics. My skills atm are bia, sixth sense, safe stowage, repairs, snap shot and the 2 perks that extends the spotting range

You're on your own there dude. The 7/1 offers much more security in a hull down position due to the mantlet. If you don't find this important then you aren't using the tank right.

If you want to sit in a hull down position and get shot by arty go ahead.

The turret is of course worse but it relocates much faster on the hill. And it is easier to lure the enemy to bad shots because it is more compact, much more mobile and offers some hull armor.

Comet is my favorite tank in the game and the FV4202 feels very similar with some cons and pros. The FV4202 matches my favorite play style better than the Centurion 7/1 with its poor rof and dpm
