I am loving these so far! We had a lot of things happen during this point in history, somethings that people may not even be aware of. As they say: War is never pretty and we definitely notice that in all of the pictures that were taken. I've always enjoyed looking back at these photos and trying to get even a glimpse of the experience through the emotions they convey.

This is my very first time doing something like this, so I apologize if the sizing isn't 100% correct.  :)

I opted to celebrate our Womens' efforts in the support of the war effort.

My Effort.....

In The trenches

It is in vain that you think that victory can be achieved by using "people's meat." Victory is achieved through the art of combat. War is waged with skill, not with people's lives.

No history projects, Mana!! School just started and I already have had to do 3 projects. If it were World War history, it would be easier. But we are learning about ancient people and stuff. A class I took in 8th grade that I had to take again becauae of different school districts.

I did a collage depicting some of the important topics in the Dutch history of WWII;

Posted Image

  1. The German invasion starts on May 10th 1940. The picture shows German paratroopers being dropped deep into Dutch territory.
  2. The Dutch fight back, but with what? This is one of the few Dutch planes, a Fokker G1. The quality is up to par with the German Messersmidts, but they are massively outnumbered.
  3. Dutch ground forces are forced to fight with out of date weaponry, here a group of Dutch soldiers is shown with an old machine gun at the "Afsluitdijk". Amazingly, they can withstand the German attack at certain choke points like this dike.
  4. Defeat is inevitable against the superior German forces and after the city of Rotterdam is bombed to the ground, the Dutch army capitulates after 5 days of hard fighting.
  5. Anne Frank is the Dutch symbol of the Holocaust and became famous for her journal which she wrote while being in hiding.
  6. During the German occupation, several resistance newspapers are spread, among with "Vrij Nederland" (Free Netherlands).
  7. A Dutch resistance fighter holding a British Sten gun, probably obtained from a British aerial drop.
  8. Operation Market Garden, probably known by many due to "A Bridge too Far". It was a bold attempt by the Allied forces to end the war quickly.
  9. "Dolle dinsdag", which roughly translates into mad Tuesday. When the Allied forces seized Antwerpen, it was believed by many that they would soon be in the Netherlands. German soldiers and their sympathizers fled to the east, only to come back later when the Allied push turned out to be halted.
  10. Airborne Cemetery Oosterbeek, where a lot of British parachutists were buried after they fell in Market Garden. This picture symbolizes the many victims the war claimed.
  11. Liberation!

Bottom left laid out a 'road' to make crossing soft sand at beaches possible for heavy tanks.
