The generalizations in the tank types are to simplify things for a newer player, and are accurate enough, and expandable enough, to warrant them.

I get that but there are still a number of tanks that fall outside of the categories you gave. As I said I probably should make a post detailing my take. It may be new player friendly too. I'll let you all decide when I can post it.

Dont forget about the Crusader either. I love that tank.

My list of suggested package changes. Matthew J35u5 has one as well. I suggest you take a look at his too and make your own suggestions in either.

Nice guide.

If I may make one suggestion, discuss "Tracking to death". Where by ideally you are shooting from a position in which you can not be shot back at(ex. below enemy tank's gun depression), you are hitting an enemy tank's forward or reverse drive wheel keeping them tracked in place giving you and your teammates a great opportunity to work them over without receiving return damage.

Done! Good suggestion.

I'm thinking about making a section dedicated to small tips that really don't warrant a section dedicated to them. This would do good there.

I'll update the light section at some point to fix the errors.

What tanks do you think don't fall into the generalizations?

Are there enought tanks that don't fall into these generalizations that I can make ANOTHER generalization on them?

Really good post. I am working on my first medium line and am currently trying to make the adjustments to play as a medium I know from watching some good medium drivers what to sort of do. I have good and bad games in medium tanks. I'm currently on the t-34-85 and could use any advice... I like to play with it as described in the passive scouting description.  Is this the best thing to do? I should work on the camo net and binocs right?

Thanks PublicSafety.

Not sure if that would work out well on a Russian Med. Russian tanks usually have less view range when compared to others of the same tier. If it has comparable view range to others then yeah, go for it. Mediums can be effective passive scouts when outfitted as such. The T34-85 is a good flanker as well. The one thing you REALLY shouldn't be trying to do is snipe, the accuracy isn't great.

Nice one, Ice - never hurts to go over the basics, for rookies and veterans alike. Although I'd try to get this stickied in the Newcomers forum - it'll sit on the front page for a long time there.

+1, regardless - guides are a far better use of the forum than griping about (insert any one of the top 10 WoT hates here).

I'm not new really, but I haven't played certain types of tanks and this information helps in giving me pointers to better my play with them. The new comers forum would be the last place I'd find this as I've never even checked it out once lol

Thanks PublicSafety.

Haha yes I figured I need to be ahead trying to find any reds for my team but I'm going to try the suggested equipment as I'm sure they'll help a lot in the games to come thanks for the post.

To start the entire second German TD line from the Nashorn up doesn't fit in either TD generalization. As for there being enough or not it depends on what you define as enough.

The issue I have with your generalizations is they are either armor or speed. There are tanks with neither and tanks with both. It also is a poor way to describe or divide the tanks in my view as it doesn't do much to give an idea on how to play a tank best. For example you don't play a T32 like you would the IS-3. You can but it isn't the best use of the T32 as it is more vulnerable even with sidescraping due to the big lack of side armor compared to the IS-3. I know it is probably more advanced than you want but I am sure there is a way to categorize within the different types that will better divide tanks based upon their abilities while also keeping it simple for new players to understand.
