Except perhaps the panzer IV

I don't know what you mean. Was the Pz. IV not at the limit of its upgrade potential with its long 75?

the fact that it couldn't make it past a 105mm (look up heuschreke) does not mean it wasn't an incredibly versatile chassis. We were speaking of the variety of guns that were able to be put on the tank and effectively fire, not necessarily which one could fire the larger gun. Also, we need to keep in mind the pz iv was a German tank, and while some countries continued to use them after the war, most that did had no intention of upgrading them with larger guns because they were either producing new tanks of their own or already had an inventory of soviet tanks that were superior either way.

something, something, something, dark side...

Tbh it's interesting to read the difference in reactions between British Crews and US crews in regards to German tank superiority.

For example, with the US sectors many crews commonly complained to superiors about the blatant armour deficit between the two, many times its been said that British crews have actually downplayed the tigers;

"Came across a burnt out Tiger at the side of the road today. 3 pens in turret from Firefly. Inside was the decaying bodies of 3 of the crew, terrible smell. Good gun that 88, but nothing like the Churchill inside."

- Personal Diary of Sgt Trevor Greenwood. 5 RTR

Of course, Montys order that their should be no talk of German armour Superiority could mean something...

Obviously, the aliens gave the Germans superior invincible Vriltech tanks that could destroy any American within 500 miles and were completely invincible to any gun smaller than 280mm. Outside of planes and TDs, of course.
