Does the E5 count as a medium?

I disagree.  Mayonnaise is definitely a medium of flavor.  And I strongly disagree as the e5 is a medium. the worst medium in the game

I like mediums because they allow me to change the scene when I want to and unlike light tanks I can decide to stay in a scene a little longer if I want to.

Sometimes I just have to lighten the mood, my heavies and TDs feel so serious and arty can be boring.

I like the flexibility to be unseen yet see the enemy.  I like the mobility to get out of trouble if my lean lemming trains.  I also like shooting tanks from the rear..they don't bounce.

9 out of 10 dentist agree...CAMPING is the #1 cause of hate mail.

No Patrick, the E5 is not a medium.

Mayonnaise isn't a medium either.

Spotting, tracking and dancing with Heavies in the T20 is almost as much fun as spotting, tracking and dancing with my wife. Truly the only tank I care about in the game, although the T23 is a lot of fun since the buff. 17+ perks on the crew makes the T20, with one of the longest view ranges in its tier frame pretty awesome as a spotter and a mover across whatever terrain the map has. Hitting tracks from across the map is doable and leaves the red to the TD s and arty mercy. Move on to circle dance with any foolishly alone heavies. Man, those Tiger and T29 people get cranky when their turret can't keep up. Love getting around the skirts of those TVIII heavies and getting them in the bunses. Got to time that better nowadays though. With almost nine seconds between shots, APCR, and hope it don't bounce.
Controlling how fast you go isn't nearly as critical as controlling how fast you stop.

I find mediums much better balanced than all other tanks. A good tank design as we all know is based on 3 key factors - mobility, fire power and protection. Getting the better balance of all 3 will give you a better tank. Other tanks focus mainly on one key area which finds them wanting during the battle. Also as mentioned the versatility to cover any role on the battlefield to some degree is crucial.

I've just started playing Mediums in a serial way, two days ago so can I join in. First one coincidentally is the T20 and what a tank. Very much enjoying it. From  my very limited experience I'd completely agree with your last paragraph. I just love that gun depression as well.

You mean the M-48 Patton is not the only tank in the game?

I also love mediums, I take my centurion 7/1 out for a spin regularly by far my favourite tank in the game.
