Aschen's Guide for the Leopard 1

Hello hello! It's me again I'm looking at my favorite tier ten at the moment, the oh so sexy Leopard 1. DISCLAIMER : there are several other Leopard drivers who drive better. This is just what works with me.

Ok, let's get started with the Tier Ten German Medium Tank the Leopard 1 MBT.

Development :

The Leopard (or Leopard 1) is a main battle tank designed and produced in West Germany that first entered service in 1965. Developed in an era when HEAT warheads were thought to make conventional heavy armour of limited value, the Leopard focused on firepower in the form of the German-built version of the British L7 105-mm gun, and improved cross-country performance that was unmatched by other designs of the era.

Source : World of Tanks - Tankopedia

Leopard 1 is the definition of a medium tank in its purest form. Fast, mobile, hard hitting; this tank will scream around the battlefield like a fighter jet, kicking @ss and chewing bubblegum. The MTU MB 838 CaM 500A engine with 830 horses makes this thing the Speed Racer Mach 5 of medium tanks (65Kph). The German version of the L7 Royal Ordinance, the Bordkanone L7A3 is a freaking laser it is that accurate (.3 accuracy) and has a respectable 6.9 rounds a minute. Light tanks look in envy of this tank's mobility of 54 degrees traverse speed.

But at what cost?

Well in order tot have made this tank so mobile it needed to drop a few thousand pounds. So what it dropped was it's armor. The Germans figured with better and badder guns coming off of the factory line it made armor useless. So they decided to just focus on the mobility and the gun.

70/35/25 mm of armor is not enough to go pick a fight head on with a heavy. Hell my car has better protection.

Equipment Loadouts :

There are many different was you can load this tank out a lot of people like to run optics to improve the tank's already great view range (410m) even more. Camo nets are a great way to be sneakier, and then rammer. (Not in any order)

A list of what I've seen people use :

        - Vertical Stabilizers

        - Large Caliber Gun-Rammer

        - Gun Laying Drive

        - Camo Nets

        - Coated Optics

        - Advanced Crew Ventilation

        - Binoculars Telescopes

        - Wet Ammo Rack

What I use :

        - Vertical Stabilizers

        - Large Caliber Gun-Rammer

        - Advanced Crew Ventilation

Technical Detail :

The ammo rack is towards the front of the tank.

How I like to drive :

I get stuck in quick because I'm impatient and want to kill things. Like a scout I rush infront of my team to get the early spots, I don't suicide scout. Once done I run to the position I'm most effective in usually on the front line depending on the map. There I start killing tanks hopefully I'll win and push on if my team was supporting me. After the first few tanks are out of my way I put my gear into mach 5 and scream around the battlefield not stopping for anyone and flanking the main force.

What I like to do when there is a big dumb heavy tank is circle him.

Quik MLG Pro Tip :

When circling a heavy tank ALWAYS put your first round into his tracks then let the fun commence by circling the dumb heavy tank.

Juking Trick :

When driving at a tank destroyer for example be erratic. Every few seconds change direction and he might miss his shot. For example you see a Jageru (JagdPzE100) you drive diagonally to the right and then... TURN diagonally left, and right as you did that he was leading the shot and pulled the trigger planting the 170mm love shell into a building or hill.

Ninja Kill :

This is how you fire through a bush without getting spotted.

1) pull up to bush and spot your victim

2) reverse away from the bush until you can't see through it, only the tank's outline

3) FIRE!

4) rinse and repeat

Why not get a BatChat 25t or STB-1?

It's all your choice but what the Leopard does better than those tanks isn't much.

BatChat 25t and Leopard 1 have the same top speed, but the Leopard is more mobile.

Leopard 1 is faster than the STB-1, has a better aim time, accuracy, and 10mm more penetration on the L7.

Ok I hope this has been helpful for Leopard 1 and Leopard PT A drivers. Have any questions? Ask away!

Be sure to tell me what I should do next.

Good luck tankers!

Nice guide, however pretty much all mediums and some heavies such as the E5/Conqueror should be using optics, vert stab, gun rammer. This is the optimal setup because vents give very little return unless its on something like an IS-7 or an E-100.

Binocs and camo are useless since you should always be moving in this tank most of the time and wet ammo rack is useless as well since the idea is to not get hit and this equipment won't help out much anyway. If any tank is already using vert stabs then GLD is also unnecessary unless the aiming on a tank is really that bad or its an autoloader.

Consumables for the Leopard 1 should be two repair kits (small/large) and a small/large first aid kit because of its problems with module damage (mainly the ammo rack). If you catch fire in this tank then you already screwed up or the game hates you.

Edit: This is just some info to help with this guide and what works for me and what is used competitively on the PC version in clan wars and in normal battles. The Foch has a good video about the Leopard 1 on youtube.

Nice guide, Leo1 is my best/most favorite medium ATM.

I don't really like your equipment setup...rammer, vert stabs and coated optics seem a lot better for this tank.

At least vert stabs > GLD, it'l work better.

Interesting that you use a gun laying drive over optics, since its aim time is already very good and due to diminishing returns that 10% won't go very far in reducing aim time further...

I sold mine, I kinda want it back now. I keep wondering if I just had a string of bad luck. However, the fact that other mediums can roll up and HE me to death really kills the whole fast/good gun/low armor style... I'm pretty sure a T-44 with HE would crush a Leo 1 in 1vs1.

I dont really care much for the view range, because I use my speed to spot enemy targets. Chances are the enemy are in a bush and I wouldn't spot them with optics anyways.

I find the Leopard's effectiveness comes with keeping the combat at longer ranges. Optics are perfect for fast paper tanks with good camo and snipey guns. I rarely get stuck in as you put it until later in the game. I only play it at close range when I have no choice, circle jerking TD's or doing the clean up.

It's very satisfying to be less than 100m from the opfor and watch them squirm because they're detected, but they can't find the spotter. I've held the hill on Prokhorovka against 3+ tanks without firing a shot, simply because they aren't comfortable cresting while detected.

Wet ammo rake and safe stowage has saved my percentage of ammo racks down from 4/5 games to 2/5 granted I'm still grinding the pt much envy and anticipation to get that gem.

Hello.
Has anyone else going through this difficulty? or Can I Explain!
I bought a tank nation: German class: light, like, leopard, level 5 as acquire the latest upgrade to Leopard 3cm shooting time per minute 37.47 of the missiles charging time is approximately 18 seconds in the game. When you acquire the version upgrade of the previous GfAufkl leopard with shooting time per minute 28.57 the project and charging time of approximately 2.2 seconds on the game. I do not understand this difference believe there is an error in this situation.

Aschenblume - thanks for your hints. Got my Leo a week ago, it's my first Tier X. The only one i really wanted, and it's a blast to play. The Grind is not easy and anoying from time to time. But totally worth it.

I use my proven Setup from the PTA: Optics, Rammer, Stabilisor. 2 Repair kits and Chocolate. I found out to perform best as a second line sniper, shooting tracks, and finisher and flanker in late game. Causing damage wherever i can, reliable delivered by the L7. What a gun, even autoaimed snapshots hit very often...

Crew skills, current 9,are focused on reliability and stealth. Camouflage, silenced shot and silent running seem to work very well with the Leo. See and don't be seen. And hit...often and hard.

Fly low. Go fast. Turn left.

Thanks for the hints. Currently grinding the Leo PT A (second package waiting for the last package).

I've been running it like the RU 251 I had, as a passive scout, then fall back to snipe and flank - Binocs, Camo, Rammer.

Once i get the last package I might switch to more active scouting...
